Flights & Training

Before you can start with your training, you need to register with Centurion Microflight School in order for us to get all your paperwork ready. This Registration includes your Registration at RAASA (Recreation Aviation Administration of South Africa), where we will submit you for a SPL (Student Pilots License) and all your online Examinations that can be booked online for our in house examination center.
You will also need a Class 4 Medical Certificate.

Weight-Shift Controlled Microlight (WCM) – This Rating allows you to fly microlight aircraft that does not make use of conventional flight control surfaces for flight operation.

To qualify with a WCM Rating you will require:

  •  Holds a Class 4 Flight medical certificate
  • Age Requirements
    – a Student should at least 16 years of age for a student pilots license and to go solo
    – a  Student should be at least 17 years of age for license to be issued
  • A minimum of 25 hours total flying time
    – Includes 2x Cross – Country Dual & Solo of 90min.
    – Nav test 90 min + 1 away full stop
    – 10 hours dual instruction flight.
    – 15 hours solo flight under supervision of the school.
  • Theoretical course, that consist of five(5) aviation subjects
    – Principles of Flight
    – Aircraft Technical And General
    – Navigation
    -Aviation Meteorology
    – Human Performance
    – Civil Aviation Regulations (Air Law)
    – Restricted Radio Course
    – Restricted Radio License
    – Type Rating (WCM)

Conventional Controlled Microlight (CCM) – This rating will allow you to fly microlight aircraft up to 450kg in wieght with conventional flight control surfaces for flight operation.

To qualify with a CCM Rating you will require:

  •  Holds a Class 4 Flight medical certificate
  • Age Requirements
    – a Student should at least 16 years of age for a student pilots license and to go solo
    – a  Student should be at least 17 years of age for license to be issued
  • A minimum of 25 hours total flying time
    – Includes 2x Cross – Country Dual & Solo of 90min.
    – Nav test 90 min + 1 away full stop
    – 10 hours dual instruction flight.
    – 15 hours solo flight under supervision of the school.
  • Theoretical course, that consist of five(5) aviation subjects
    – Principles of Flight
    – Aircraft Technical And General
    – Navigation
    – Meteorology
    – Human Performance
    – Civil Aviation Regulations (Air Law)

Light Sport Aircraft (LSA) – This rating will allow you to fly conventional controlled aircraft up to 600kg in weight

To qualify with a LSA Rating you will require:

  •  Holds a Class 4 Flight medical certificate
  • Age Requirements
    – a Student should at least 16 years of age for a student pilots license and to go solo
    – a  Student should be at least 17 years of age for license to be issued
  • A minimum of 35 hours total flying time 
    – includes 2x Cross Country Dual & Solo of 90min.
    – 15 hours solo flight under supervision of the school.
    – 1x dual & 1 solo flight into controlled airport
    – Nav test 90 min + 1 away full stop
  • Theoretical course, that consist of five(5) aviation subject
    – Principles of Flight
    – Aircraft Technical And General
    – Navigation
    – Meteorology
    – Human Performance
    – Civil Aviation Regulations (Air Law)
    – Restricted Radio Course
    – Restricted Radio License
    – Type Rating (LSA)

Converting to a CCM from a WCM
– Up to a max of 15 hrs credit
– Min 10 hrs dual
– 5 solo T/O and landings
– Principals of Flight LSA
– Skills test with Grade A or B instructor

Converting to a LSA from a CCM 
– 20 hrs credit
– min 5 hrs solo
– 1 dual & 1 solo flight into controlled airport
– 2 X countries Dual & Solo 90 min
– Nav test 90 min + 1 away full stop

– Exams LSA
– Skills test by a Grade A or B instructor

Converting to a LSA from a WCM
– Up to a max of 15 hrs credit
– Min 10 hrs solo
– 1 dual flight into controlled airport
– 1 solo flight into controlled airport
– Exams Engines & Airframes LSA
– Principals of Flight LSA
– Skills test with Grade A or B instructor
 
Converting to a WCM from a LSA and from a CCM
Min 10 hrs Dual
– 5 Solo T/O and landings
– Principals of Flight WCM
– Skills test by a Grade A or B instructor
– Cross Country requirement may be relaxed
 
 

CMS has it’s own onsite CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) Accredited and Approved Examination Center where you will be able to complete all your CAA required theoretical exams without leaving the airfield.

Centurion Microflight School offers you the opportunity to introduce yourself to the world of aviation by putting you in control and teaching you the basics of flying an aircraft. You will briefed and strapped into the Front Seat of one of our Microlights with a instructor in the back seat supervising and showing you what it takes to fly WCM or CCM rated microlight. This experience will last for 20min which you get to decide if flying a WCM or CCM rated aircraft is for you.
